Brand TLD deployment
Major brands such as Google, Sony, Audi and Barclays now use their brand name as a TLD – an internet Top Level Domain name – and publish sites called blog.google, environment.google, motionsonic.sony, or home.barclays.
While there are no additional brands granted with the possibility to use their brand name as a TLD – this may grow in the future if ICANN decides to reopen the Top Level Domain space – the 550 brands who oen their brand TLD are publishing sites in their new domain name space.
dot Leclerc TLD
Leclerc is a french supermarket, and has created a certain number of specialized stores. The jewellery store is called “manège à bijoux” that translates as the jewellery arena, while the wine specialized store is called “ma cave” – my cellar.
These stores are physically located in the supermarket, but have a different look and feel, colour. The wine area in a Leclerc supermarket has a different flooring and light than the rest of the supermarket. This is reproduced in the digital world with the .leclerc TLD.
The first specialized stores launched by Leclerc were sports and parapharmacy in Summer 2016. Early 2017, leclerc launched their wine online store on the domain name : macave.leclerc.
dot Komatsu TLD
Komatsu is a Japanese multinational corporation that manufactures construction, mining, and military equipment, as well as industrial equipment like press machines, lasers and thermoelectric generators.
Komatsu launched in April 2017 their main japanese corporate site with a new, modern and fresh look and feel, in a new .brand domain name – home.komatsu.
Komatsu had previously launched :
- ntc.komatsu – NTC is a branch of Komatsu producing transfer machines, machining centers, grinding machines, and semiconductor manufacturing equipment.
- smartconstruction.komatsu – smart construction is a service launched by Komatsu in 2015 in Japan and 2016 in the USA that combines drones and heavy machines.
- sanki.komatsu – Sanki is a business line called Komatsu Industries Corporation
dot Sky TLD
Sky is is a British satellite broadcasting, on-demand internet streaming media, broadband and telephone services company with headquarters in London. Sky is Europe’s biggest and leading media company and largest pay-TV broadcaster, with 21 million subscribers and 30,000 employees as of 2015.
Since 2016, Sky holds a tech summit called streaming at scale. The dedicated event mini-site was called streamingatscale2016.sky, and the promotional mini-site is streamingatscale2017.sky.
The summit explores the latest technologies in terms of streaming.,
The Sky website was launched end of April 2017 as the final programme of the conference is not known yet.
