The two largest new gTLD operators are totally different

On January 3, 2015, Donuts is the largest new gTLD operator, with 34% of the delegated TLD and 31% of the domains.

The second largest operator is dot xyz, with a totally different profile

Financially speaking, the models are also very different.
Donuts sells their domains in average around 30 USD – some are more expensive, depending on the domain and on the TLD, some are less. We have not made an extensive estimation of the average, but this seems to represent more or less a fair value..
Donuts operates their own back end and therefore internalize the costs ands leverage synergies between domains.
After a long period where .xyz was given away, it seems now that a customer would have to pay around 10 USD to have a domain on .xyz.
dot xyz externalizes their back end to CentralNic.
